Autumnal Greetings to All

As the school year unfolds, I am back in classrooms once again.

war-1812I’m beginning work with Alan Macdonald, a fine educator and artist who is the teacher of the Challenge Program at Loughbourough Public School in Sydenham, ON (Limestone School District).  I am working with Alan and his students thanks to an Ontario Arts Council Artist-in-Education grant.  I’ll update this site to provide details of our work together, work which is part of the “Challenge for Change” program that involves each of the schools in the Limestone District that offer a Challenge program for Grade 7 and 8 students.

I will also continue to work with Young Imaginations, a non-profit, charitable organization which brings arts education to elementary school age children. Young Imaginations brings history to the classroom through improvisational drama, role-play, storytelling, writing, creative movement, singing and the visual arts.

This year we will continue the War of 1812 program.  I’ve been working with students to create soundscapes to bring some of the larger-than-life figures from that historic period including Tecumseh, Sir Isaac Brock and Laura Secord.  It’s makes for an interesting juxtaposition to explore history using contemporary technology (digital recording).

Listen to one of our soundscapes as performed by the students at Prince Charles School in Napanee:
