The Yarker Family School Song

We’re a small school with a big heart …

I have a long and wonderful history of working with the Yarker Family School. I used to live in the village of Yarker and made the trek along the railway bridge across the river to the school every Friday for many years. When my children were babies and toddlers, I bundled them up, grabbed my guitar and our dog and made my way to the Yarker Family School.

This week—almost 20 years later—I finished my most recent work and play with the Yarker Family School. I visited the school for 8 sessions over a 4-month period. Song, story and sound were the ingredients that brought us together each visit.   We developed our own ‘Greatest Hits’ of songs to sing, a list that included “At the Drive Thru,” “It’s Not Easy Being a Kid,” and “Who Loves You” from my most recent album, “The Very Next Day.”

We also wrote and recorded our own song together, ‘The Yarker Family School Song.” I’m including the lyrics here as well as a Youtube link that features an audio track of the children performing the song. The song is simple and sweet. I believe it captures the spirit of a very special little school. My thanks to the staff and students for hosting me and for making me feel right at home.

Here is the link for you to listen to our song.  You’ll find the lyrics below. Enjoy.

Our school is a family school.

Our school is really cool

We love every thing we do—

Yarker Family School

Yarker Family School

We may be small but that’s ok

We come here to work and play

Learning each and every day—

Yarker Family School

Yarker Family School

We’re a small school with a big heart

Each of us has a part

In making this a special place

A happy wave and a smiling face

Yarker Family School

Yarker Family School

Yarker Family School
